VCNS, VAdm. SN Ghormade Visits NIOT Furthering Naval-Academia Collaboration

Indian Navy Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, visited the National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai, on 17 June 2022. The Chennai-based institute was established in November 1993 as an autonomous society under the Government of India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences. 

The Vice Chief was briefed about the various ongoing projects in the field of Ocean Technology & areas of cooperation between the Indian Navy and the National Institute of Ocean Technology.

The Indian Navy and the National Institute of Ocean Technology are actively engaged in the indigenous development of technologies related to underwater domain awareness, and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV). Project Samudrayaan in particular is of key importance and is one of the many ongoing projects.

The visit marked yet another step in the Indian Navy’s commitment to technological enhancement and collaboration with academia to meet India’s evolving maritime challenges and perform its operational responsibilities.
