IndiGo Bolsters Cargo Unit With New Chief Commercial Officer For CarGo International

By Staff Correspondent

IndiGo has announced the appointment of Mark Sutch as its new Chief Commercial Officer for CarGo International, effective from the start of this month. Bringing a wealth of experience over a 25-year career in the airline industry, Sutch’s most recent role was as Chief Commercial Officer with CMA CGM Air Cargo in Marseille. Before this, he spent five years as Cathay Pacific Airways’ Regional General Manager for South Asia, Middle East, and Africa, based in Mumbai, and also ran all commercial aspects of Cathay Pacific’s cargo division in Hong Kong. Sutch is a dual British and Irish national who has spent most of his career on international assignments.

In a move aimed at strengthening and streamlining its cargo operations, IndiGo has appointed two Business Leaders to oversee its domestic and international cargo businesses. Mahesh Kumar Malik will continue to lead the domestic market as Chief Commercial Officer for CarGo Domestic, while Sutch will focus on expanding the global cargo business.

Speaking on his appointment, Sutch expressed his enthusiasm for the role and IndiGo’s potential to develop “world-class cargo products and solutions” using its A321 freighters and extensive belly capacity to support India’s growing air cargo export and import demand. IndiGo CEO, Pieter Elbers, welcomed Sutch’s appointment, stating that his experience will be invaluable in helping the airline expand its cargo business. Elbers also thanked Malik for his work filling both cargo roles during the transitional period.

IndiGo added its first A321 CarGo freighter to its fleet in November 2022, followed by a second in December of the same year. The airline’s cargo operations took off in November 2022 with its first domestic freighter flight between Delhi and Mumbai, followed by its first international flight between Kolkata and Yangon. With its ongoing fleet expansion and ambitious plans for the cargo business, IndiGo is committed to further strengthening its cargo organization to meet growing demand.
