Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Lays Foundation For Bhogapuram International Airport, GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd To Develop

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, laid the foundation stone for Bhogapuram International Airport, a significant development project aimed at propelling the state to global prominence. The 2203-acre airport will be built by GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd, a leading global airport developer, following a competitive bidding process conducted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The much-awaited airport, which is expected to take three years to complete, is expected to generate around 6 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities, attract investment from businesses and industries worldwide, and contribute to the region’s overall development. It will serve as a hub for cargo and freight, with a dedicated cargo terminal, an Aerotropolis, and an airport city nearby.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Reddy stated that the airport’s construction would spur the development of Vishakapatnam, the Executive Capital of the State, and its surrounding regions. He praised GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd and other stakeholders for their crucial role in turning this vision into a reality and pledged the government’s support to ensure the project’s timely completion.

Under the concession agreement, GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd will design, build, finance and operate the international airport for an initial term of 40 years. The airport will initially serve 6 million passengers per annum, with capacity for expansion in the future as demand increases.

GMR Group Chairman, GM Rao, expressed gratitude to the government of Andhra Pradesh for the opportunity to build this gateway to the future. The company aims to deliver a seamless passenger experience and operational efficiency, and it will continue to invest in state-of-the-art infrastructure and the latest innovations.
