Indian Domestic Airlines Report Significant Passenger Surge: MoCA Applauds Resilient Aviation Sector

The latest statistics submitted by various domestic airlines in India reveal a significant passenger surge, with a reported 503.92 lakh passengers, as per the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s Tuesday announcement. This demonstrates a notable annual expansion of 42.85% compared to the previous year’s count of 352.75 lakh passengers.

The Ministry emphasised the marked increase in passenger figures as a testament to the vigour and resilience of India’s aviation sector, underlining the continuing endeavours to boost connectivity and offer convenient travel options for the populace. The uptick in numbers signals an escalating demand for air travel and demonstrates a promising progression for the aviation industry.

22.18% Increase in MoM Growth Rate Observed Between April 2022 & 2023

In addition, the report detailed a 22.18% rise in the month-on-month (MoM) growth rate between April 2022 and April 2023, highlighting the persistent buoyancy of the domestic airline industry. The Ministry attributes this consistent ascent to the cooperative efforts of airlines, airports, and the Ministry itself in cultivating a safe, efficient, and passenger-centric aviation environment.

Cancellation Rate for Domestic Flights Maintains a Low 0.47%

In another remarkable accomplishment, the cancellation rate for scheduled domestic flights for the month of April was reported to be a mere 0.47%, while complaints per 10,000 passengers carried for the same period averaged at a low of 0.28. These achievements reflect meticulous planning, operational efficiency, and proactive strategies employed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and airlines, ensuring a smooth travel experience for passengers despite the two-year COVID-19 slowdown.
