Indian Aviation Forecast: 1000 New Aircraft Over Decade; New Airline Emerges Amid Pandemic

By Staff Correspondent

Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal revealed ambitious forecasts for the Indian aviation sector. He anticipates an annual influx of 100 new aircraft into the Indian skies over the coming decade.

“Each year, for the next ten years, we project a substantial addition of 100 aircraft to our national fleet,” stated Bansal, demonstrating his optimistic outlook on the continued growth of the Indian aviation industry.

The Secretary further highlighted an extraordinary achievement that sets India apart on the global stage – the birth of a new airline amidst the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. This milestone was realised with the launch of Akasa Air, a venture-backed by the late billionaire Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. The airline commenced operations in August 2022, during an unprecedented time in global travel.

In a short span of time, Akasa Air has already made a notable impact on the Indian aviation market. By commanding a four percent market share with its fleet of 19 aircraft, the fledgling airline has demonstrated its formidable presence in the sector and sets an intriguing precedent for the predicted expansion of the Indian air travel landscape.
