Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) has announced the successful completion of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of their Security Checkpoint Area (SCP) expansion and improvement project at the T2 terminal. This development has amplified the terminal’s capacity, with promises of reduced passenger waiting times and improved convenience.
The directive for the MIAL project came from the Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, who has overseen the successful delivery of the project’s first two phases, which concluded on 31 March 2023 and 30 June 2023, respectively. The augmentation of the terminal’s space ensures a more streamlined flow of passengers and a corresponding decrease in congestion.
With the Indian aviation sector’s commendable recovery and resilience in the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic, a significant surge in daily passenger traffic has been observed, resulting in an India ready and eager to take to the skies. In reaction to this increased demand, MIAL, in partnership with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), has formulated a comprehensive strategy to enhance the capacity and quality of its premier Integrated SCP facilities at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s (CSMIA) Terminal 2.
This initiative aims to increase processing capacity and reduce wait times and offer passengers a smooth and secure travel experience. With the first of the project’s three phases beginning in September 2022, the first two have been completed successfully, providing tangible results.
To bolster the travel experience further, CSMIA has deployed ushers to direct passengers and has introduced priority lanes for senior citizens, passengers with young children, and those with specific accessibility needs.
Civil Aviation Minister Scindia commented on MIAL’s progress and said, “Our main objective has always been passenger satisfaction. I am pleased to see that private airport operators are working harmoniously with us in our quest to make air travel easier and more efficient.”
“MIAL has done commendable work in creating additional space, which has led to increased capacity and improved passenger convenience. With the imminent completion of the project’s third phase, I believe these improvements will only intensify. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we remain committed to providing the best possible service to our citizens,” he concluded.
