By Staff Correspondent

According to Rolls-Royce, IndiGo has decided to purchase sixty Trent XWB-84 engines. For Rolls-Royce, this is a historic deal with a top Indian airline.

Engine care and repairs are covered by Rolls-Royce’s all-inclusive TotalCare program as part of the agreement.

In 2023, IndiGo carried 100 million passengers and was one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines. It served over 110 local and international routes. Thanks to the new order, the airline will be able to expand its services, especially on foreign flights.

“This important order from IndiGo for our Trent XWB-84 engines is a great win for Rolls-Royce,” stated Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer of Rolls-Royce plc. The Trent XWB continues to be the engine of choice for airline operators due to its future readiness. Rolls-Royce considers India to be a significant market. Major improvements to infrastructure and anticipated expansion in air travel bode well for the future. “We are thankful to IndiGo for putting their faith in us and we anticipate collaborating with them on this adventure,” the company said. We can do more as a team, expand our client base, and take advantage of this dynamic industry.

Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Rolls-Royce and its future-ready Trent XWB engines in relation to the acquisition of a new fleet of A350-900 aircraft. The addition of these widebody aircraft to IndiGo’s fleet is a strategic move. We have faith that the dependable and efficient Trent engines made by Rolls-Royce will enable us to accomplish our objective of connecting every corner of India to the rest of the world.

The Trent XWB, built in Derby, UK, is the most technologically sophisticated big aviation engine in operation and may greatly accelerate IndiGo’s sustainability efforts. The Trent XWB uses 15% less gasoline than the previous Trent engine generation while still providing industry-leading performance and noise levels. It has already been tested and found to work with 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blends, and it will also work with 100% SAF in the future.

Through the redistribution of wing time and maintenance cost risk to Rolls-Royce, TotalCare aims to offer operational assurance to clients. Customers benefit from greater operational availability, dependability, and efficiency thanks to data provided by the Rolls-Royce sophisticated engine health monitoring system, which supports this industry-leading premium service offering.
