General Upendra Dwivedi Assumes The Position Of Chief Of The Army Staff

General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, assumes the position of the 30th Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), succeeding General Manoj Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, who retired after serving the nation for almost forty years on June 30, 2024.

General Upendra Dwivedi is a highly skilled military commander, having served in the Armed Forces for a remarkable 40 years. After graduating from Sainik School, Rewa (MP), he joined the Regiment of Jammu & Kashmir Rifles in 1984. The General officer has a rare distinction of having command and staff experience in the Northern, Eastern, and Western theatres in diverse operational settings.

He assumes the position of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) during a period when the worldwide geo-strategic situation is constantly changing, and the security sector faces more noticeable difficulties due to improvements in technology and the ever-evolving nature of contemporary warfare. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) will prioritize operational preparedness as a critical focal area to effectively address security challenges a developing nation faces. Simultaneously, prioritizing a targeted response plan to address several non-traditional security concerns is crucial for strengthening the nation’s defence.

General Dwivedi possesses extensive knowledge and a demonstrated history of successfully strategizing and implementing plans to address unforeseen circumstances. He has held important positions and played a crucial role in addressing ambiguous threats in the national security landscape.

The General officer has a profound comprehension of contemporary and developing technologies within the security field. Additionally, they exhibit a deliberate strategy of utilizing and incorporating state-of-the-art technology into military systems to improve operational efficiency.
