ROSOBORONEXPORT JSC has initiated the production of 3VBM17 Mango armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot (APFSDS) rounds in India. The ammo is specifically engineered to overcome armoured vehicles equipped with composite armour. The project is being executed as part of the Make in India initiative.
The 125mm Mango round is specifically intended for use with the cannons of T-72 and T-90 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs). The Indian Army currently operates many variants of these military vehicles.

It is intended to commence powder manufacture on Indian territory to get the utmost level of localization in the production of Mango projectiles, according to Sergey Chemezov, General Director of Rostec.
The Mango rounds consist of the 3BM42 APFSDS projectile, which has the ability to effectively engage contemporary tanks equipped with composite armour.
