In a significant development for the aviation industry, Flight Data Systems has announced a licensing partnership with L3Harris Commercial Aviation Division. This agreement grants Flight Data Systems the exclusive rights to extract data from the SRVIVR25™ Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recorders using their Handheld Multipurpose Tool (HHMPI™). Notably, Flight Data Systems has become the first third-party entity authorized to access SRVIVR25 data, marking a milestone in aviation maintenance and operational efficiency.
The SRVIVR25 is widely regarded as the industry’s leading 25-hour cockpit voice recorder and is line-fit on all new Airbus platforms. Many airlines are also retrofitting their existing fleets with the SRVIVR25 to standardize their operations and enhance voice recording capabilities. This recorder’s advanced technology and extended recording capacity have made it a preferred choice for commercial aviation operators worldwide.
The licensing agreement reflects L3Harris and Flight Data Systems’ shared commitment to addressing the evolving needs of the aviation industry. Ron Nye, Director of Aftermarket Services at L3Harris Commercial Aviation, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “Partnering with Flight Data Systems to facilitate third-party access to the SRVIVR25 recorders marks a major advancement for our customers. This agreement addresses the industry’s need for improved data accessibility, empowering maintenance teams to optimize their workflows and enhance operational efficiency.”
Flight Data Systems’ HHMPI is a state-of-the-art ground support tool designed to streamline the process of downloading audio from cockpit voice recorders (CVRs) and data from flight data recorders (FDRs). Supporting multiple manufacturers’ recorders through specific cables, accessories, and software, the HHMPI is a versatile and cost-effective solution for maintenance teams. Its ability to comply with OEM requirements ensures reliable and accurate data retrieval, helping airlines and maintenance facilities save time and reduce costs.
Shane LaPlante, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Flight Data Systems, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “The industry has long sought third-party extraction for the SRVIVR25 recorders, and we are pleased to announce that we’ve reached an agreement with L3Harris to fulfill this need. This new agreement not only expands the capabilities of our HHMPI Ground Support Tool but also leads to significant operational efficiencies and cost savings for our customers worldwide.”
The HHMPI is a valuable asset for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, airlines, and operators working with SRVIVR25 recorders. Many of these facilities already use the HHMPI for regulatory compliance checks on multiple OEM recorders. By leveraging this tool, maintenance teams can perform hundreds, if not thousands, of downloads for specific recorders, making it an indispensable part of their operations. Its compact and durable design, combined with its ability to support over 100 airframes from leading OEMs, further reinforces its reputation as the premier ground support tool for flight recorder data extraction.
In addition to its technical capabilities, the HHMPI is designed with user convenience in mind. It allows technicians to efficiently manage aircraft fleet information and perform targeted downloads based on tail numbers. Furthermore, it offers flexible acquisition options, including purchase, rental, and consignment agreements, making it accessible to a wide range of customers.
This partnership between Flight Data Systems and L3Harris underscores their commitment to advancing aviation technology and improving operational efficiency across the industry. By granting third-party access to SRVIVR25 data, the agreement empowers maintenance teams to enhance workflows, reduce service times, and lower costs—ultimately contributing to safer and more efficient aviation operations.
