Ransomware Attack Leaves SpiceJet Passengers Stranded

By Ruchi Singh

Numerous commercial flights operated by Spicejet met with delays. The airline was subject to several passenger complaints owing to a lack of service. Unhappy customers took to Twitter with photographs and videos after long wait hours following boarding.

Customers were irked by the lack of any response from the airline during the waiting period. In response to this, SpiceJet clarified in a letter that the situation was resolved. “Our IT team has contained and rectified the situation, and flights are operating normally now,” the airline Tweeted.

However, the passengers present there painted a different picture. Agitated customers went on social media to share that they were stuck in other airports for hours.

The situation was aggravated owing to a lack of water. Further complaints emerged about the ground staff not conveying the problem. Some customers Tweeted that the ground staff were not available at the gate.

It was pointed out that airlines had not commenced operations and that the SpiceJet staff were not aware of the situation.

“Certain SpiceJet systems faced an attempted ransomware attack last night that has impacted our flight operations. While our IT team has to a large extent contained and rectified the situation, this has had a cascading effect on our flights leading to delays. Some flights to airports where there are restrictions on night operations have been cancelled. SpiceJet is in touch with experts and cybercrime authorities on the issue,” SpiceJet revealed in its statement.
