The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has recently forged an agreement with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), headquartered in Bangalore, for the purchase of 13 Lynx-U2 Fire Control Systems for the Indian Navy. Valued at over Rs 1,700 crore, the procurement falls under the ambit of the Buy {Indian – IDMM (Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured)} category, marking a milestone in the nation’s pursuit of self-reliance – Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Crafted indigenously, the Lynx-U2 System is a highly advanced Naval Gun Fire Control System. It enables the accurate tracking and targeting of potential threats in the midst of sea clutter, as well as air and surface targets. The cutting-edge, fourth-generation technology will be equipped on New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels, constructed at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers and Goa Shipyard Limited, and is expected to generate two lakh man-days of employment over a span of four years.
The infusion of the Lynx-U2 Fire Control Systems will further catalyze the participation of multiple Indian industries, including MSMEs, in the nation’s strategic defence sector. This development is aligned with the Government’s ambitious vision to attain ‘Aatmanirbharta’ and will contribute significantly towards the realization of the same.
