Sixth Scorpene Submarine, ‘Vaghsheer’ Embarks On Maiden Voyage

In a momentous occasion, the sixth submarine of Project 75, Yard 11880, hailing from the esteemed Kalvari class of the Indian Navy, commenced its sea trials on May 18, 2023. The submarine, named ‘Vaghsheer,’ was launched on April 20, 2022, at the Kanhoji Angre Wet Basin, hosted by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL). Anticipated to be delivered to the Indian Navy in early 2024 upon the successful completion of these trials, ‘Vaghsheer’ represents a significant step forward for the naval forces.

MDL has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to excellence, achieving the delivery of three submarines under Project 75 within an impressive span of just 24 months. The initiation of sea trials for the sixth submarine marks a momentous milestone, underscoring India’s resolute pursuit of self-reliance, epitomised by the AatmaNirbharBharat initiative.

The forthcoming phase will entail rigorous testing and evaluation of all systems onboard the submarine, encompassing propulsion systems, weaponry, and sensors. Imminent assessments conducted at sea will meticulously scrutinize the seamless integration and optimal functioning of these vital components, ensuring their utmost reliability and effectiveness.
