By Staff Correspondent

GKN Aerospace, a prominent tier 1 aerospace supplier, has successfully completed the overhaul of the first F-35 Lightning II wheels and brakes assemblies at its GKN Fokker landing gear facility in the Netherlands. This milestone delivery signifies the commencement of GKN Aerospace’s contract to provide maintenance and servicing for the F-35 fleet’s wheels, brakes, and strut assemblies in Europe.

Shawn Black, President of GKN Aerospace Defence Business, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that this accomplishment is a significant stride in expanding the F-35 industrial base and strengthening international collaboration in the program. GKN Aerospace is committed to working closely with Lockheed Martin to support this pivotal multi-role fighter in Europe and the Pacific.

GKN Aerospace’s Fokker business secured the contract to maintain and service the F-35 landing gear due to its extensive expertise in landing gear maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) for various platforms, including the F-16 and the NH-90 helicopter.

In addition to its maintenance activities, GKN Aerospace’s landing gear business is actively engaged in the design and manufacturing of the F-35 arresting gear, as well as the development of the F-35 composite landing gear drag brace.

Having been involved in the F-35 program from its inception, GKN Aerospace has played a crucial role by designing and manufacturing various components for all F-35 aircraft. These contributions encompass electrical wiring interconnected systems, flaperons, in-flight opening doors, cockpit canopy, airframe parts, and arresting gear.
